Stream-Copy Remuxing vs. Video Transcoding
Many users assume that converting a video always degrades its visual quality. With traditional video conversion tools that force a full re-encode, that is often true. However, a video file is composed of two distinct parts: the container (such as .mp4, .mov, or .mkv) and the compressed streams inside it (such as H.264 video and AAC audio).
When you convert an MKV file that already contains H.264 video into an MP4 container, there is no need to recompress the picture. Frametaro performs stream-copy remuxing: it extracts the existing video and audio packets and wraps them in the new MP4 container without touching a single pixel. This operation finishes in seconds and retains 100% of the original quality. Transcoding is used only when codecs are incompatible or when you choose to modify resolution or frame rate.
