Upscaling Videos to 4K: Setting Realistic Expectations
When you upscale low-resolution video to 4K (3840×2160 pixels), the output file has four times as many pixels as 1080p Full HD. While classical interpolation fills in extra pixels by averaging neighboring colors, on-device AI super-resolution evaluates pixel relationships to reconstruct sharper edges, reduce blocky artifacts, and enhance fine textures.
However, neural upscaling cannot fabricate details that were never captured by the original camera sensor. A heavily compressed, out-of-focus 360p video will appear sharper and less pixelated, but it will not magically transform into native cinema-grade 4K camera footage. The cleaner the original source material, the more impressive your AI video enhancement results will be.
